The year was 1941. In a New York City loft the founder of the Coach family business was inspired by a quintessential American icon – the baseball glove – to create a legacy of his own. To his eye, its distinctive marking and deep, glowing burnish held potential beyond his origins. After refining the leather by making it softer, yet maintaining its strength, durability and character, the first Coach bag was created. Six artisans handcrafted the first Coach collection, consisting of only twelve bags, using skills and techniques that had been passed down from one generation to the next. As time passed, Coach introduced a new line of accessories, watches.
